In Japanese Buddhism, Jizo (Sanskrit: Kṣitigarbha) is a bodhisattva believed to protect children, including the souls of the unborn and the deceased.
Learning that Jizo originates from the Vedic earth goddess Prithvi, I gave him/them subtle feminine features.
Though not my flashiest creation, this work is a deeply personal one. I aimed to capture and hold sorrow, longing, ache, and, ultimately, a sense of hope.
